RE: drying off stuff

We try to get all dry before we depart, which is why we are the last to leave on Sundays! :(
But if we have to pack up wet, we use our doggie towels to dry off canvas and store the matresses in the hallway. Then when we get home, if possible, we open ends up, have a drink, and wait a few hours for it to dry.
There are times that we can't open the ends(rain forcasted for days and days, gotta go to work, etc)then because the mattresses are standing in the hallway, we leave the bunkends up and pull the canvas inside of the HTT, unzip windows, and have a fan blowing towards the damp canvas for a day or so.
We have determined for our family, that when we start adding covers, inserts, mattress toppers, etc,etc it will be time for us to upgrade. We still love,LOVE the canvas: noisy, damp, cold, hot, bird droppings, tree sap, sun beaming down, campfire smoke smell, etc.
Hope you weren't camping last night/today when Ike came calling!

RE: Sour Toe Cocktail Club, Dawson City, YT

my Dad joined a few years ago...we have all promised to get his right toe up there after his death. He had pics of his initiation to "The Club".

RE: Medical Bills

wait until after the election because both candidates have promised to fix our failing healthcare system! tee hee! sorry, but I had to say it.
I have called individual office managers to set smaller payment amounts and that seems to keep bill out of collections.
best of luck

RE: Hanging Laundry

oh my goodness, luckily here in the midwest we haven't gotten so nit-picky. we go on many float trips in the midwest and see wet river clothes hanging from EVERYthing to dry in the afternoon sun. If it offends me, I turn my chair to face another way. This too shall pass.
I hope the subdivision type rules and regulations never make it to the midwest...keep them on the coast please.
Relax, it's camping :)

RE: bunk end fan/light combos

We have used the heck out of ours in our Jayco for the past 4 years. Never any problems. Will a Jayco fit yours?
Of course, now that you have talked about it, they probably won't work on the next trip! :)

RE: Southern Illinois info please!

Thanks for your tips. We will plan on heading towards Crab Orchard or Kinkade (not sure which one yet)and choosing a site when we get there. We figured it won't be full that time of year.
So, for folks that live in that area, which area would be closer to wineries, bike trails, and fish that are slow & easy to catch:(
Which area has bigger, more private, on the water sites?
Thanks again!

RE: Camping nights per year

no, I will never be satisfied with the number of nights we camp per year! Until I retire and become a campground host/employee. We both have 4 weeks vacation from work yearly and use most of them as soon as we earn them. We go to work to earn vacation. Most bowling trips and family events now involve us dragging the HTT along:)
Happy trails!

RE: Have you had Front Bunk End Water Leaks!!!!

yes while towing in the rain, just started this year.
we are used duct tape on each new trip and between trips this summer and have narrowed our leak source to the hinge while in the rain. Trying to decide if slapping a bit of duct tape will be our perm or temp fix. Out of warranty of course:(
As if we couldn't LOVE duct tape anymore....now they make it in CLEAR!!

what things to see on Great river road?

we will be starting from St. Louis heading south on Route 3 to Southern Illinois(not sure of destination yet). Any interesting history, wineries, etc. places you have seen?
Thought we would try the scenic tour(2 lane) instead of our usual race(4 lane)to the destination!

Southern Illinois info please!

We have a week of vacation burning a hole in our pocket! We will be heading to southern Illinois, Shawnee National Forest in October.
I have started calling and getting info on-line, but want REAL info from you.
Would love: full hook-up, on lake(or view of lake), winery close by, bike trails, marina rentals.
Thinking about Kinkade Lake near Murphysboro, Il.. anyone been there?

RE: Rockwood has leaky storage compartments

we had cargo leaks when new. went to the dealer several times and finally found the trick. we bent the metal piece that swings when you turn the key which made the door close tighter and the key harder to turn. No more leaks!

RE: Need help with next mod - dinette extension

hey, I just had a thought. I like the extended bench being perm. next to the bed, and understand that you might like a bench of matching length on the other side of the dinette, but because of the slide, that can't happen. Right? What about a slideout bench that is able to retract under the current(like the slideout bed platforms on a pop-up).
How cool to be able to have a sturdy table AND bench extension that you could choose to use/or not based on your needs for that trip!

RE: Need help with next mod - dinette extension

I like the extended bench idea. When we have "dinner parties", we enjoy having TV trays for couch dining for overflow crowd. Since we leave our food buffet style on sink/stove area, there is some up and down during dinner. We also have to account for us LEFTIES, even if our butts fit on the bench, we get extra space for our special abilities! :)
I vote for a matching, free standing separate table that can be more flexible to use at extended bench, couch, outside kitchen area, even campfire area for cooking.
I enjoy hearing about these mods!

Ours is a female only toilet...men and boys go in the woods for pee duties. I hate cleaning after a big family trip and just don't understand how they can miss that hole! :)

RE: Question about towing Really need help!!

I won't talk numbers, etc, but when we hit a good headwind or hill when loaded for a weeks worth of stuff, I sometimes wonder if OUR HTT is too much. That may be me being overly cautious, but we LOVE our TV.
You are in the right place to get "real" info, not like the dealers fairy tales! Keep asking questions

RE: bunk end lights

we use our fans/light combo each trip. For a reading light, on super hot days on a full sun sight to push the hot air out(we keep the curtain closed and push the fan to the end window unzipped at the top and blow hot air out), to keep condensation under control when cold weather camping, on those days that we don't want to hear the "jet engine" loud AC .

RE: Roof Issue

Ours is 4 yrs old and we have developed some ripples in our"ceiling wallpaper". So we know that water got in and we have re-caulked around all stuff on the roof bunks, etc. Then I have used my high-tech method of pencil marking the farthest points of the "ceiling wallpaper" ripple and wait to see if it moves past that point.
It doesn't make sense to even think about fixing the cosmetic issue until we are positive we got to the source.
Good luck

RE: Emerald Ash beetles in Missouri

We had a weeks worth of firewood 2 summers ago, and when we saw the banned firewood drop-off/checkpoint in MI, we pulled in. Didn't want to be hauled off Day One of vacation! :) We got brochures, read the info, tried to find where to dump our "illegal" firewood, no luck! Went to the next rest area and spoke to an employee, they said as long as we burned it all and didn't haul it back out, we would be fine. Huh?
I gotta tell you that being from an uninfested state, and trying to educate ourselves as we entered an infested state, was VERY confusing. When we got to the campground, everyone had brought their own wood from many different states.
I realize the devastation that comes from these guys, and don't want to see the St. Louis Arch grounds treeless(80-90% Ash trees), but seems like an unlikely battle to win.:(

Emerald Ash beetles in Missouri

Just saw on the news that the infestation has now spread to the boothills of Mo. This is the first documented case in Missouri. They also have spread as far south in Illinois as Bloomington.
No firewood bans yet, but I'll bet by next summer, the conservation dept will have firewood bans in place.
I guess I won't miss hauling our firewood with us, it will save on gas.

RE: Bubble on sidewall, tire shopping questions

Thanks as always Chuck for an experienced(or full of BS:)) response that I can understand!
We have decided to order 2 of the same tires from the dealer and change out the worst of our 5 current tires.
It just breaks my heart to get rid of tires with great tread and no cracking. :( Oh well..............
